The Clan MacCraigean
has a long and obscure history. They entered the realm of history
when the daughter of The MacPherson was wed to a large talking frog
and made their home in a marsh which lay just about mid way between
Ben Nevis and Loch Ness.
They next appear out of
the mists about the time of MacBeth in 1040. It seems likely that
they hopped right back into the mists after Duncan was murdered
because nothing is heard about them until the Battle of Bannockburn
where a MacCraigean fought in James Douglas's Division.
Centuries later Ran
MacCraigean fought with some others of his family at Culloden under
Alexander Macgillivary and the Clan Chattan. A younger son escaped,
following Mackay and others back to Culcabock, and then away to his
own marshy home.
